michal.b napsal: Personally, I feel no need for ultrawide EPs at higher powers, but I'm surely looking forward to your verdict. It would be nice to have a good cheaper alternative in the UW league.
Wide angle EPs are very useful even at high powers. Especially in Dobsons or scopes on alt-az mounts. The reason is that observed object stays longer in the field of view and therefore you don't need to move scope so often in order to track the planet. For Dobsons this is a big advantage if not a must (try to observe Saturn with dobson at 350x or more with 40° ortho EP, you will see ). For tracked mounts it is a "nice to have", but not so important.

I use Vixen's ortho with 240x in my Dobson- it's OK and views of Saturn, Jupiter are magnificient But it isn't very easy to keep a object in a field of view. For example to observe with my Baader Silver Plossl 8 mm (150x) it's just delicious ;)
Yes, I agree with Mpe- wide field is recommended for Dobsonians telescopes, especially for high powers. And zoom EP for DSO it isn't a bad thing...

Well, most of my observing is done with scopes on tracking mounts And for the price of two Naglers, you can buy a nice tracking platform... But this is clearly a matter of personal preference.
