Hello,
Can somebody help me with information about the telescopes made by Gajdusek and Kozelsky. I have already downloaded their Czech publication. I'm translating it into English.

I'm looking for detailed photos and possible drawings of their mounts telescopes and optics.

The reason why I'm asking this is because I acquired the telescopes from the Zdanice Observatory (see www.debeerst.com) and I'm restoring this wonderful instruments. Actually they are in bad condition.

I have 7 telescopes from the Zdanice Observatory:
-20cm f:15 refractor on a heavy equatorial mount
- 16cm f:15 refractor on the same type of equatorial mount
- 16cm f:15 refractor on a altaz mount
- two 25cm f:14 Cassegrain reflectors on altaz mounts
- 10 cm coronograph
- 15cm Schmidt camera

My plan is to restore them, ad new motors and controllers and install them again in a new observatory.

Best regards,

Xavier

Try to get and let you translate the magazine Kosmos. In this magazine are mostly pre-1989 Kozelsky telescopes have been often. Kosmos magazine should be available for scanning in the state scientific libraries in larger Czech towns. It is sad that these astronomical national treasures must take care a stranger, but at least someone. I wish you much success in repair.

Thank you, Howking, for the information. Brought a lot of Kosmos and other magazines with me from Zdanice.
Will take a closer look.

I had mixed feelings when I was moving the telescopes. They're place was in the observatory. Nobody took care of them. Nobody used them.

This are fantastic instruments. I didn't understand it.

the observatory was public on sale. There was no reaction.
I'm very grateful to the previous owner that he let me buying the scopes.

The research about the Gajdusek-Kozelsky telescopes and the Zdanice Observatory continues.

On my blog just published the translations of two Czech articles about the history of the observatory and a description of a 20cm refractor

Kozelsky worked for two years at the construction of the 20cm refractor and mount.

Merci!

Update about the Zdanice Observatory...

The 7 Gajdusek Kozelsky telescopes have a new home.
Relocated my collection of telescopes from Belgium to France.
The project will be to install the Gajdusek Kozelsky telescopes in 4 new Roll of Roof observatories.
I hope that the observatories will be operational by the end of this year.

The observatories are located on a 4ha old farm away from city lights. A 360° clear sky with an SQM of 21.7....

- observatory with the 20cm refractor and a 25cm Cassegrain (already restored) on the original Kozelsky mount
- solar observatory with 2 16cm refractors (one in h-alpha and the second one in white light) and the 10cm coronograph on the original Kozelsky mount
- 25cm Cassegrain on a Fullerscopes MKIV mount
- the fourth observatory will house a 50cm Ealing Beck cassegrain from the University of Ghent, Belgium.

The Kozelsky mounts will be equipped with servo motors on the RA and digital setting circles on both the axes.

All the observatories will be open for the public. Contact me for the conditions.
You can find more information on my Facebook page:

This will be a second life for the Gajdusek Kozelsky telescopes.

Forgotten to mention I'm still looking for original scopes and mounts made by Gajdusek and Kozelsky to complete the observatories.
Also all possible documentation about the Zdanice Observatory and Gajdusek and Kozelsky.
thank you very much.

Also Observatory in Jindřichův Hradec has the telescope what was constracted by Kozelský and Gajdůšek. And Mr. Schmied from Kunžak (near Jindřichův Hradec) had the refractor. But Mr. Schmied is dead and I dont know who has his telescopes.

Hi. I have managed to know that Mr. Schmied's telescopes are in the possetion of the Czech astronomical society as they came for them after his death as well as for all of his solar drawings. But unfortunately I have no other knowledge.
